As an early Mother’s Day celebration, I decided to bring my mom to High tea at Niagara-on-the-Lake. The decor was very nice, old Victorian style, very relaxing view by the windows.

We decided to order Traditional Afternoon Tea ($34.00/person) which included finger tea sandwiches – four selection of gourmet sandwiches; four selection of pastries; and their home made scones made with plump jasmine tea infused sultana raisins accompanied by strawberry jam, Devonshire clotted cream, and whipped creamy butter.

We also decided to get a premium reserve upgrade ($8.00/person) allowing us to have a selection within the exclusive award winning reserve of teas in addition to imported French specialty gourmet handcrafted sugars also we can each have our own tea pot. We were told these French sugars can be enjoyed alone or savoured on the side of your mouth while enjoying your cup of tea so both tastes infuse with each other.
Both my mom and I have a taste for black tea so we selected a Darjeeling 2nd Flush aka The Champagne of teas possessing a floral aroma, tinge of musky spiciness producing a fairly thin light body. The one displayed in the picture above is the one I ordered Queen of the Hill – a sweet earthy taste lingering on your pallet. It’s a shame the waitresses are not as educated with the selection of teas available or they could have recommended the best pairing to bring out this tea’s finest quality. If only I had known I should enjoy this tea with a touch of milk (I didn’t know but tried it anyways – made the tea 100 time smoother and silkier).

An experience definitely worth trying. If you have some free time to kill. It was very relaxing there chatting on and off with my mom and reading my book.
