BIER MARKT

It’s been a while since I’ve visited this place. This is a chain restaurant / bar that offers more than 150 selection of beer. The beer list actually offers more varieties than their menu. Along with its simple menu and live music, what more can you ask for?

The menu is a very Americanized European taste, from eggs Benedict to cheese fondue and even muscle fritz. I went ahead and ordered the beer flight. Each flight is themed with different selection of beer, I chose the hops ($22.00) which has a flight of 6 variations in the following order:

  1. Laguintas Ipa (6.2% ABV)
  2. Pilsner Urquell (4.4% ABV)
  3. Sierra Neveda Pale Ale (7% ABV)
  4. Goose Island IPA (5.9% ABV)
  5. Amsterdam Boneshaker Imperial IPA (7.1% ABV)
  6. BrewDog Punk IPA (5.6% ABV)

I don’t know much about beer so I can’t really comment on it much. All I learned from this is, without food, it has a very bitter aftertaste that seems to linger in your mouth. Once in a few sips you taste some interesting punch of fruitiness.

I also ordered a cheese fondue called the Grand Swiss ($27.00) which I thought had a lot, but it really wasn’t much. It’s supposed to be traditional Swiss fondue & accompaniments ( Gruyere, emmental & raclette cheeses, white wine, fingerling potatoes, fresh baked baguette -I’d question its freshness, tastes more stale than anything- MARKT pickle jar & rodenbach grand cru ale).

On the menu it says it’s enough to feed more than two people. I had a table of four and I was still hungry after licking the fondue pot clean.

So we ordered a small sausage board ($14.00) which had one Bavarian pretzel, MARKT pickle jar, house mustard, jalapeño & cheese curd ~ curry yogurt sausage, spicy chorizo sausage, and bier bratwurst. Not very pleased, the sausages were all that great especially the bratwurst.

Finally I tried the dunkel duck wings ($14.00) which was slow braised duck drumettes, fried crisp & dry spice-rubbed, gold bbq and hot lingonberry dipping sauce. This was rather interesting with the sauce but way too salty without it.

Overall interesting experience, not the best place to talk with friends on a Friday night with live band and loud music. But great place to visit once in a long while.
